Minimum quantity for "Premier Heritage Certificate & Technical Specification Package" is 1.

If you wish to present your vehicle to an official licensing, registration or importation authority, you might require more information than can be found in the factory record. For this reason you can now add a Technical Specification Sheet to your Heritage Certificate.

This expanded package offers you:

  • A full Heritage Certificate listing all the information recorded against your vehicle's chassis number in our original factory build ledgers
  • The technical specification relating to your vehicle, researched from our vast archive of original workshop and owner's manuals and presented on a BMIHT letterhead.

Simply upload your favourite photograph from your PC, using the form above. Your 'Premier' Certificate will include your picture in addition to the original details from the factory build record, as included on the standard Heritage Certificate.

The ideal way to display your vehicle at a car show, or for framing to take pride of place on the wall.

Please ensure that the picture you provide is of sufficient quality. We recommend a resolution of 300 dpi.

The BMIHT cannot be held responsible for the picture quality of images supplied by the customer.

Before contacting the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Archive, please see if your question has already been answered in our Frequently Asked Questions section.

Important: The amount of information listed on a certificate is very much dependent on marque and model, and that the information recorded for an individual car cannot be guaranteed until the research has been done.

Before contacting the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Archive, please see if your question has already been answered in our Frequently Asked Questions section.

Q. Is my car tax exempt?
A. See the tax exempt guide to see if your car falls into the exempt category.

Q. Can you produce a Heritage Certificate for my car?
A. We can only produce certificates for those vehicles listed, if your car isn't included we cannot produce a Heritage Certificate for it.

Q. Why don't you produce Heritage Certificates for Jaguars?
A. We do not hold the build records for Jaguars. Please contact the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust www.jdht.com.

Q. Why can you not produce Heritage Certificates for Minis built after 1969?
A. After 1969 the factory stopped recording any real information, just a chassis number and a build date. The only document we can produce for post 1969 Minis is a 'Confirmation of Build Date' letter.

Q. I don't want a Heritage Certificate, but can you give me all the details on my car?
A. If you want information informally, please use the Web Enquiry Service, we can provide information taken from a factory record but no document is issued.

Q. I ordered my Heritage Certificate two weeks ago, why haven't I received it yet?
A. Due to the demand for Heritage Certificates we have to state a waiting period of 28 days.

Q. What does the engine and body number search mean?
A. This is required when you do not have a chassis number and we have to try and trace the car with either an engine or body number. This is a time consuming process as only chassis numbers were recorded in numerical order therefore an additional fee is payable. If you have a chassis number, this service is not relevant.

Q. Can I pay for my Heritage Certificate in another way?
A. No, we can only accept payment in Sterling by either credit card or cheque.

Q. What is the difference between a dating letter and a Heritage Certificate?
A. The dating letter will just give you the date the vehicle was manufactured, the Heritage Certificate will list all the information that the factory recorded when the car was built.

Q. Why does my Heritage Certificate not list the engine or body number when I gave them to you?
A. On a Heritage Certificate we can only list details that can be verified by an official factory record, if details weren't recorded we can't include them. With certain cars, such as the MGA, the engine and body numbers were not recorded in the build records.

Q. Can you undertake private research for me?
A. No, however, we can make the material available for you to conduct your own research. Archive material can be made available Monday - Friday, 10am - 4pm by prior appointment giving a week's notice. To make an appointment to visit our Reading Room, please visit the HMC website or phone 01926 645076

Q. What does 'certificate to be issued to' mean?
A. This will be the name of the vehicle's owner.

Q. What does 'certificate re-issue' mean?
A. If you already have an existing Heritage Certificate but you want it made out to a new owner or it is in the old style and you'd like the up to date version, we can re-issue the certificate. We require the certificate number or, for an old certificate that isn't on our database, a copy of the original certificate.
