From January to June 2008 researchers may have been frustrated to find the BMIHT Archive temporarily out of action. Fear not, however, your patience will be rewarded!
In that period the Archive store has been completely refurbished and in place of a mish-mash of shelving from various eras (and in many cases originating from various parts of the BL empire) we now have a modern set of mobile units throughout the storage areas. In addition, the photographic store has been equipped with air-conditioning and humidity controls in order to protect this delicate material from long-term deterioration.
The whole exercise has been somewhat painful for archive staff and volunteers – weeks of moving heavy boxes to temporary locations, followed by months of building work, followed by weeks of moving heavy boxes back to their new locations. But, as you can see from the pictures, it has all been worthwhile and we are now back in business!
