The Archive of the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust preserves the surviving records of some of the most famous names in British motoring history.

Classic car owners can now purchase a special Heritage Document Wallet to go with their Heritage Certificate. Not only is this the perfect way to keep all your important documents safe, the Document Wallet also contains a copy of an appropriate period sales brochure taken from our Archive Collections (loose leaf A4 colour copies) and a digital A5 photographic print of an original company publicity image featuring the relevant model.
For a limited period only, if you have purchased a Heritage Certificate since January 2011, the Heritage Document Wallet can be bought on its own.

Owners of 1949 – 1972 Aston Martin cars can now purchase an exclusive, premium quality leather folder that includes facsimile heritage items, tailored to their individual Aston Martin car.

If you wish to present your vehicle to an official licensing, registration or importation authority, you might require more information than can be found in the factory record.
For this reason, for an additional fee you can now add a Technical Specification Sheet to your Heritage Certificate or Dating Letter.

A Dating Letter will show the vehicle’s date of manufacture, as recorded in the original factory build record, presented on British Motor Industry Heritage Trust letterhead.
This is a way to confirm a detail from a vehicle’s build record, such as a date of manufacture or original colour, in an informal manner. This enquiry service is for a single piece of information. If you require all the information held in a vehicle’s build record, you will need to purchase a Heritage Certificate.
Please note, this information is provided by email and will not be accepted by registration authorities. If you require information in a formal manner, you will need to purchase either a Heritage Certificate or BMIHT dating letter. This option is only available for a vehicle with a chassis number (VIN).
Please allow up to 28 days for Heritage Certificates. If you have any enquiries please call 01926 645076
